Birds from Bricks

Thomas Poulsom, LEGO® Designer & Author

We are absolutely delighted to welcome LEGO® designer and author, Thomas Poulsom, to Scotland's Big Nature Festival! Thomas had his eureka moment when a robin landed on his spade handle, and from his imagination a fantastic range of LEGO® bird kits emerged.

This workshop is an opportunity to build, under supervision from the designer himself, Thomas' iconic robin bird model. You'll be guided through the construction process with step by step instructions and if you are as smitten as we expect you'll be with your LEGO® creation, you can take it home! The robin stands over 6" (17cm) tall on its stand.

This workshop is suitable for children (7 years and above with adult supervision) and adults alike. Places are extremely limited so be sure to book early!

A returnable £10 deposit is required to book a place on this workshop. The deposit is refundable if at the end of the workshop you choose not to keep your robin. Should you wish to keep your creation an additional £12 will be charged on the day, meaning you can take your robin home at the cost price brick cost of £22!

BTO/SOC Bird Guides

Sea wall and bird hides (look out for the feather flag)

Levenhall Links is one of the best birding sites in the Lothians. The number of birds to be seen throughout the year is impressive as is the variety of species which can be found. It’s also one of the best sites for viewing birds at close range, either from the manmade seawall or from the three hides overlooking the wader scrapes.

To help you get even closer to the reserve’s birdlife over the weekend, guides from BTO and SOC will be on hand at both these key birdwatching locations (look out for the feather flag), to pass on the latest sightings, point out what’s around and provide a few hints and tips to help improve your bird identification skills.
